May 15, 1917

Dear Old Papa & Mamma! And the rest,

I just received your letter & cards & sure tickled to get them. They sure put the life into me. I have been pretty lucky so far on getting mail, get a letter or 2 every day. But yours are always the best.

I am feeling fine & dandy, took another occulation INOCULATION in my arm yesterday. It was pretty sore last nite but the soreness is all gone now.

We just got in from afternoon drill & they sure do drill us hard, but I am getting into it & like it fine.

As for them sending us to France I don't think there is any chance of that but think they might send us to guard some U. S. coast or something like that. But not to France, that was just a joke.

You folks just ought to see me now getting fatter than fool, feeling that way all the time.

Oh yes. Some body or somebodies have birthdays pretty soon. You better watch the mailbox close in about a week Ha Ha.

I was to Frisco SAN FRANCISCO Sat. nite, had good time & saw lots of good shows. Then Sun. I was down to the beach. Saw lots of Japanese sailors, sure some hot looking bunch. The beach sure was crowded with people, but of course they were all classes & colors, but not much on the nigroes NOT RACIST. BUT NAIVE out here.

They have a place where a fellow can look through a telescope & there is an island out in the ocean about 29 miles. Can see it and ships awful plain through the telescope, and also can see the island from camp at evening or nite. There is a lighthouse on it & that shows up real plain.

I also saw an airplane yesterday, They sure make an awful noise when they are in the distant they look like a snake feeder. They fly over the bay every day for practice & we can always hear them, but when we are in ranks we don't dare to look around.

We took another inspection today but can't describe it in this letter Ha Ha It comes to all of us every week, so you see we have to keep clean on that part as well as any place.

Oh yes, when they gave us the physical inspection at Ft. Logan the Doctor said my noise was alright but my right tonsil was enlarged. Also had the piles HEMORRHOIDS slightly, that was something new to me. For they never bothered me or do they now.

If there is anything wrong with a fellow they sure find it out and tell Ernie BROTHER it would be no use for him to try as there would never be much chance for him to passed. But I'll write to him later.

I suppose Earl's OLDER BROTHER LUMAN have made up with Sherer's they sure are an easy bunch. But I suppose it was all for the best.

Where did Earl Rasdal move to & why didn't he stay in Coleridge?

I received a letter from Mike & Pearl yesterday but haven't heard from Joe's, Earl's, or Sid's. BROTHERS Tell them they had better hurry up a little yet.

Oh yes, Dad, I saw a couple of big fishing boats Sunday but didn't get close to see the fish but I hear they got some big ones, of course that wouldn't much for this country.

How do the farmers have to pay for hired help back there. I suppose everything is out of sites. Have you sold corn or oats yet? I suppose corn is worth about $1.50 or better back there. The flour here are costing $4.00 fo 49 lbs., sugar for $15 a 100 lb so you see things sure cost out here.
