Ft. Miley Calif. May 28, 1917 Dear Folks,   I just received your letter today, mailed you one yesterday, so I tho't
Who's is using her now? Take good care of her because I'll need her when I get back.   We didn't drill long today as it is raining most of the time.   I got a letter from Dess,
How is everybody coming back there? I wrote about all I could think of in the other letter. I haven't wrote to Indiana yet but will write tonite or tomorrow. I don't think we will have to drill.   May 30th think we will have to parade somewhere. Don't know for sure but that is the gossip going around.   Mother, don't worry about them stealing; there has only been 2 pair of shoes stolen in camp. But they will put a fellow in the guard house for steal a little thing worse than they will for anything else they would do. They sure hate a thief & he has no right here.   Well Folks I suppose your yard is awful pretty. We see some awful pretty houses down town, have porches covered with vines & flowers. Sure look grand.   This sure is a patriotic town. All you can hear is join the Army or Red Cross, and even the shows start out playing a national song & everybody salutes. We have to salute all Officers, no matter where they are, but I think it is all right.   Well, will close. Write soon.
Your own son |
