Ft. Miley Cal June 28, 1917 Dear Folks,   I received your letter day before yesterday, just as I went on guard so I couldn't ans
Well how is everybody at home? I am fine & dandy, getting along better all the time. Still having a good time.   I was on Old Guard Fatigue. That is when a fellow comes off guard he rest in the afternoon. Then the next day, we water lawns or work in the garden or some little job like that. They sure treat us right.   Oh yes, as I was walking my post I saw the prettiest pheasant I ever saw, look about like a pea fowl.   I had a dandy post to walk. It was No. 2. Had to guard the big Mortar guns. The Officer of the Day didn't even come arround, that makes twice I have walked post & the Officer of the Day haven't bother me. But a fellow has to halt everybody after dark, even the relief.   You tell Ernie
So Miss Clarence goes with Mr. Grant again. She sure does think a lot of herself.   How does Ernie crop look at this time? I sure hope he gets a good crop because things are going to be high next fall. But don't know wether I'll be back by that time or not. The war looks stronger one day & again it looks as tho it would be over any day.   There is a lot of Red Cross Nurses leaving here today for France. Don't know when we'll go but when this war is over there'll be no more Germany. Because the way the Sgt. talks, they intend to take everything away from the Germans when they get started & we are the people that can do it.   Well mother, as I wrote the other day, there isn't much to write about. I kind of look for Herb
