Dear Folks,

      I tho't I would drop you a few lines today as I think I will probably be put on guard tomorrow.

      We do not drill in the after noons any more, but have plenty in the fore noons. First we take the exercises then 1 hours Art. Drill & the rest of the fore noon up till 11:30 we have infantry drill. But this morning we took about a 4 mile hike & believe me the Lieutenant sure did double time us. He took us down the beach & thru the Golden Gate Park & every little ways he would double time us. A lot of the fellows nearly drop out & even some of the old fellows did. & he was going to Court Martial them or some similar to it, & the post commander wouldn't stand for it. But I would rather do that than the infantry drill any time.

      I see by the paper that today is the day they start the draft. I hope it doesn't get the boys because Uncle needs the farmers as bad as he needs soldiers & everyone can't be farmers.

      The ones that had ought to go is the I. W. W. They sure raise hell out here. I wish old Uncle Sam would turn us over to take care of them, believe me we sure would put a little brains in them. But I guess we will have to take care of old Kaiser Bill first.

      What do the people think about the length of this war back there. My opinion is that it won't last much longer than Christmas. Anyway I kind of expect to be back there for Christmas dinner.

      How is the big car coming? I sure would like to be there & take a long old ride with you folks.

      How is Ernie coming? Did he ever get over that trouble he had when I was there?

      Well as there isn't much to write about, only that I am feeling fine & dandy, hoping you folks are the same. Will close, hoping for a speedy ans.
