Letter dated August 31, 1917
Fort Miley Cal
Aug 31, 1917

Dear Folks,

Just received your letter of 26. Was sure glad to get it.

I just got back from standing Muster. PRE-PAYDAY RITUAL We stand a pretty good chance of getting paid Tues or Wed. But the exact day is not known for sure.

We stood some Inspection today. There was about a dozen Officers but all go by fine & dandy but I suppose will have another Inspection again tomorrow. But it is easy to prepare for it as a fellow can keep his gun clean since no one uses it but himself.

Well how is everybody by this time? I am fine & dandy, still enjoying good times, but not like we used to have back there. No chance. No city life for me when I get out of the army.

What did you think of Pearl's letter? Sure was a dandy wasn't it.

How old of a fellow is the enginiers? ENGINEER? I suppose he will be moving up there.

Say but you must have some little orchard of your own, if you have so much fruit to give away. I guess you was right about Sh-- being GS. I don't see how Earl's BROTHER could be so thick with them. No wonder they can afford a big car, after all the easy money they made.

I got a letter from Mike's & Sids BROTHERS today. Believe me the letters from home sure get a warm welcome from me. Mike said that Maude's colt was a dandy. Now be sure & save it for me as Doll KINLEY'S WORK HORSE will be ready to be Mustered out when I get back. Ha, Ha.

Are you folks running both machines? I would like to be there & pull the old ribbons over Dick & Nig's OTHER WORK HORSES AT THE FARM back behind the tank wagon. Just think how the money will rattle in the boys jeans this fall. I can't hardly help but envy them. But I just think of the future when I'll be turning over the old sod.

Have you made your trip to the river? The way Mike wrote me everyone must have a car. Believe me I see my share out here. A horse & buggy is the thing of the past.

Them pictures I had taken weren't any good, but the one of the Company was good & you will be getting it some of these days. I have no Kodak of my own. I borrowed one of my tentmates but didn't have it set right.

Well as the news is scarce will close.

With Love to all
Kinley

P.S. Don't ever think I'll forget you.
