Letter dated September 17, 1917
Fort Miley Calif
Sept 17 1917
Dear Folks,

I received your letter Sat nite but I went on guard Sunday so didn't have time to write sooner. Your letters come as I go on guard & you can just bet they made the guard twice as easy.

I don't see why my letter don't reach you sooner as I write 2 & 3 times each.

Have you got my Company picture yet? I sent it a long time ago. You had ought to have received it before you wrote.

Well how is everybody back there? I am fine & dandy. Like this place better every day.

I was over to Ft. Mason Sat. That is the worst Fort I ever saw. Nothing but sand & them soldiers do guard without their coats so you can see it is hot. I'll take Fort Miley for mine every time. I would like to spend my whole enlistment right here.

I don't know how long we will be here. They are going to give us another shot in the arm this week. I think it is the last one.

Say for Gods sake how many quarts of fruit have you got? You sure must be carving that old fruit. But remember you have got an awfully hungry boy coming home some of these days & that fruit won't last long.

How did Earl's BROTHER small grain turn out this year? What rent is he paying? You bet Dad wants to stick the price up on that land as it is worth every cent of that & more along side of what this land is out here.

What does Mike BROTHER have to pay for the place he rented? I am sure glad he got one, as in the last letter he wrote he said he was always 15 minutes late. But I knew he would be early one time & I hope it is a grand place too.

Well Mamma, not much news. I will have my picture taken this week as we were paid last Friday.

      Well Bye Bye.

With Love
Your son
Kinley
