Letter dated September 24, 1917
Fort Miley Cal
Sept 24 1917
Dear Folks,

Mon. morn just received your letter, sure glad to get it. This leaves me feeling fine & dandy. Hope it reaches you the same.

This sure is a dandy day. It seems as tho' THOUGH the weather gets better every day & the longer I stay here the better I like it. But expect to be sent some place to quarter for the rainy months, as we would probable PROBABLY drown in these tents. But just the same I like the tents. We don't have to be as strict in tents as we will in Barracks.

Oh yes I sent you that picture yesterday. It is a little better than the others, but I was never capable of taking a good one any way.

So the boys have to be exam. Well I doubt wether they will pass. Joe BROTHER sure ought to be exempted if any one would. And I don't think Ernie BROTHER will pass.

I heard from Joe's today & he said that Ernie had part interest in a car. What, don't he like the Cadillac?

The pictures of Doyle sure are good. The little devil sure looked natural. I would like to git a hold of him & rasssle arround a while.

Oh, but us soldiers sure are getting popular. They give us a dance about every week & it is about the foxy hotel in the west. The rates are only about $6.00 to $15.00 a day so you see it isn't cheap by any way.

That sure was some tragedy about Cora Heintz. I tho't THOUGHT it was Faust when I first read about it. He sure must have been nuts alright. I was a good thing he killed himself as old Jack would have probable been wild.

I went to Frisco SAN FRANCISCO Sat nite, took in a show – The Revue of 1916 & it sure was great. But kind of tuff RISQUE but all the shows are rank out here. The higher the women wear their dresses, the better the people like it here.

And yesterday I was down on the beach. It was just covered with people in wading & laying arround on the sand.

Who is the thrashing crew this fall? I suppose the stack threshing is about over. What did Dad make this year?

What does Will's think they will do next year? He had better keep on the farm, but I suppose he'll go back to the garage business.

Well dinner is ready - will finish later. Well back from chow. Not much to eat but it will last until nite.

But generally we get pretty fair eats. We can get a good breakfast at the canteen or 10 cents. Consists of three cakes, molasses, & cup of coffee, so you see it is cheap.

Well news is scarce & Signal Drill is close at hand, so will close. Well Bye Bye

With Love to all
Your son
Kinley
