Fort Miley Cal Sept 30 1917 Dear Folks,   I received your letter yesterday sure glad to get it. This leaves me feeling fine & dandy hope it finds you the same.   I was mighty glad to hear the boys passed the physical exam. But I don't think Joe   Folks we have been all slick up for two days now. Yesterday Sat. Inspection & today we stood muster. It made me hop right along to get ready this morning as I was Camp Orderly & had to police up the camp. But made it O. K.   There will be no leaving camp for me today until after retreat as I might have to run errands for the Officers or someone. But it is sure a snap. But I don't like to catch one on Sunday.   I wish you folks were here now. This climate sure is great. A fellow always swetting.   We probable   Mother don't you ever intend to stop canning fruit? Good you sure must have a cellar full. You sure will have to have a cellar lock when I get back because I might fonder   We sure have pretty good eats at times & at other times it is pretty punk.   Oh yes we had another private inspection this morn you get me? Ha ha. All passed. This is the cleanest Co. in the fort in about ever respect. The other two companies have barracks but we get along as go in our tents.   I got me paper the other day & read the full particulars of Cora Heintz's tragedy. It was awfull wasn't it? I always tho't   I sent that photo a week ago today & you had ought of got it long ago.   What size is that big mirror of yours? I think I can get an easel for you out here.   A fellow sure sees some funny sites out here & some awful ones too.   Our French lessons we were taking busted up.
