Fort Miley Cal
Oct 4 1917
Dear Folks,

I received your letter tonite & I am always mighty glad to hear from you. This leaves me feeling fine & hope it finds you all the same.

We have sure had some dandy weather until today. It is awfully foggy now. But probable PROBABLY be alright tomorrow, anyway. I hope so, as I go on guard tomorrow. I was lucky this time, caught a short guard. Only 21 hours & I don't have no old Guard Fatigue or Inspection Sat.

There is times when I would like awfully well to be there especially the next day after I had been out. There is no late sleeping. Ha, Ha. At home I didn't realize what a snap I had. But now it sure is plain.

So you think I'm fat. I guess you are right only 165 lb. Some fat. This drill & the way we eat is the cause for it.

I wish you folks were here to go wading in the surf with me. They all do old & young. A couple of old ladies told me it was good for corns & calices CALLOUSES so I went right in. Sure was great sport. I got all wet but we built a camp fire & dried our clothes.

I am glad Ernie BROTHER is having a good time with his Ford. Tell him to keep it as it won't be long until he will be back, as the way the papers read this war will be over before very long.

Mother I would like to have been there & got at them cookies. I received a box of candy from Margaret Konigui (?) yesterday. Sure was nice.

Oh I hear from quite a few people back there & it keeps me busy writing out. I am satisfied as I sure do like to hear from you & yours are the main ones though.

Well Mama you will have to excuse this short letter. Will write more next time. Well Bye Bye

With Love to all
Your son
Kinley
