I received your most welcome letter yesterday & also that sweater and say it sure is a dandy & comes in handy too. The kids in my tent sure do envy me. The ladies out here are making sweaters too, but not as good as this. I know because some of the boys here have some & I was comparing mine with their's.

      Oh yes I also got the baby doll soap. Ha, Ha. I intend to bring it back with me.

      I was issued my heavy marching outfit yesterday. It consists of 1 rifle, 1 bayonet, 1 shelter half, 1 poncho, knife, fork, and spoon, one mess pan, & heavy pack and a foot locker. The foot locker sure came in handy & I can keep everything lock up and no body can steal it. Things sometimes dissappear arround here. But I have not lost anything yet. But I have some awfully nice things here that could be pawned. So you see the foot licker comes in pretty handy. I am not afraid of the boys in my tent, but some of the other boys can come in once in a while.

      So Carl Ritchie is home. Well if I was as close there as he is I would come but I couldn't get a long enough furlough. But some time I'll be coming home to stay and I don't think it will be long till that time will come.

      I am now looking for that cake, licking my chops already thinking it will be on the evening mail.

      I got me another watch the other day. It is a $4.50 wrist watch. One of the boys was broke & sold it to me for $1.50 & it is a brand new one too, so you see I am pretty lucky on the watch deal.

      Our guard dutys are coming oftener now as some of the boys left to drill the liberty boys & we only get 7 nites in now.

      I think we are going to have artillery practice some of these days, but I don't know where it will take place at. Will tell you about it later.

      I haven't heard from Herb or Charly or even cousin Pearl for a long time.
