France Sept 21, 1918 Dear Folks;
  Well I have another day off. I will try & write a few lines.   How is everyone at home? This leaves me feeling fine & dandy, plenty to eat & a dry place to sleep so you see I have nothing to complain about. Besides I like this branch of the service better every day.   And we have only had one casualty in the Battery so far, & that happened by a German sniper who was using a machine gun & a poor shot too. I saw the patrol party that captured him. He also had 4 other square heads with him. But no matter how many there is of them, when you get them surrounded they shout "Kamerad" as soon as possible. But here is one that don't care to take any prisoners. Not since I have seen what they will do.   I have seen quite a few of the capture(d) German trenches & dugouts. Believe me they sure did have things fixed up great. The trenches were all cemented up the sides. Dugouts were all the way from10 to 30 feet deep & some had electric lights & most everything one could ask for.   By the looks of things they intended to stay quite a while, but the Yanks kind of surprised a little and I guess by the looks of things they still have them guessing.   I would like to tell you more about the things I have seen over here, but it might not pass so I will keep my memory brightened up & tell you all when I get back.   Yes, when I do get back that sure will be some home coming. We will make that old house ring for a while.   I just received a letter from Sid   Well I guess I have written about everything of any interest to you, so will close for this time. So take good care of yourselves & write often.
Your Son
