France Nov 4th 1918 Dear Dad & Mother;
  Just a few lines to let you know I am feeling fine & dandy, plenty of good eats & a good warm dugout to sleep in. And our spirits are raising higher every day.   Today's news sure sounded good to us. (“Austria's Quitting”) Now we have only old Germany to lick and believe me we are going to give it to her about right, you see. We got Turkey & Austria before Thanksgiving, and we will be in Berlin before Xmas. My greatest wish is to march through Berlin, and then to old U. S. A.   I suppose the home papers are full of war news. It is some different from a year ago. I am afraid Mike   Where does Pearl   Dad, you will have to get busy & be looking for a place for me to work as you know it will be home for me when this thing is over. And I think you will find me a different boy than when I left.   Every day I look back on the time I spent worthlessly and can hardly wait until I get (back) and make (up) for what I lost. And I certainly intend to do it.   You folks had ought hear the conversations we have at nights. It is something like this. Oh just think of the big dinners we will have and Gosh but it will feel good to sleep in a feather bed. And such talk as that. We have plenty to eat but there is nothing that can compare with Mother's cooking. And the beds we have are the best one could ask for over here, but not as soft & springy as the ones we left, Don't think we are complaining, but we have to have some subject to talk on, so those are the subject we use.   Well I guess I had better close as the candle is about burnt up & I have just time to get in bed before it is finished. So good night.
With Lots of love and Best Wishes
