Welcome to WWW.SMALL-TOWN-BIG-WAR.COM

When my father died in 1999, he left behind a storage unit filled with furniture and personal items from his life. Most of it proved to have very little other than personal value, but in one of the boxes I found these letters which his father had sent home to his parents from World War I.

I was left wondering what to do with them, and came up with several options.

The first was to ignore them entirely, which seemed to work for about 5 years.

The second was to throw them away, which I immediately determined should not happen because I realized that there may be something of historical importance here.

Next was putting them together in some usable fashion and writing a book. That seems like an awful lot of work with very real possibilities that nobody would ever see the letters anyway.

Finally, I decided that I should gather them all up and donate them to a museum someplace. While researching online how this could be done, I came across several sites with WWI letters and sent a question to one of the webmasters asking what my next step should be.

The very wise response was that if I donated them to a musuem the only people who would ever see them are the ones who happen to stumble into the right museum at the exact moment that the curator has decided to display them, which sounded like a real small number of people. That brings us to this site.

I am putting the letters here on the site so that you can see them, read them, use them in your research, and get to know both my grandfather, Kinley John Cisney, and the times in which he lived.
